JobFriend Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how JobFriend ('we', 'us', or 'our') handles information when you use our Chrome browser extension ('Extension').

Our core principle is privacy. JobFriend is designed to function entirely locally on your computer.

Information We Do NOT Collect

JobFriend does not collect, store, transmit, or share any Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This includes, but is not limited to:

• Your name, email address, physical address, phone number
• Your browsing history (except to identify if you are on a supported job site)
• Authentication information (passwords, credentials)
• Financial or payment information
• Personal communications
• Your precise location or IP address
• Any content from websites other than the job identifiers needed for its function.

Information JobFriend Handles (Locally)

JobFriend's sole purpose is to help you track job applications on specific job board websites.

To achieve this, JobFriend utilizes your browser's local storage (`chrome.storage.local`) to save the following information only on your computer:

• Job Identifiers: A unique identifier (like a URL snippet or an internal ID from the job site) for job listings you interact with.
• Status Information: The status you assign to a job listing ('Applied' or 'Ignored').

This data remains entirely within your browser's local storage and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.

How We Use Information (Locally)

The locally stored Job Identifiers and Status Information are used exclusively to:

• Display the 'Applied' or 'Ignored' visual tags next to the corresponding job listings when you revisit supported job board websites.
• Allow the JobFriend header bar to filter or show relevant statuses based on your locally saved choices.

Permissions Justification

JobFriend requests certain browser permissions to function correctly:

• storage: To save your 'Applied'/'Ignored' status locally on your device.
• scripting & Host Permissions (e.g., *://*.linkedin.com/*): To inject the visual elements (buttons, header) and interact with job listings only on supported job board websites.
• webNavigation & tabs: To detect when you are on a supported job site so the extension can activate reliably.

These permissions are used solely to provide the core functionality of the Extension as described and are not used for tracking or data collection beyond what is necessary for the Extension's single purpose.

Data Security

Since all functional data is stored locally within your browser, its security relies on the security of your computer and your browser. We do not have access to this data.

Data Retention

The data stored locally by JobFriend persists until:

• You manually clear your browser's storage/cache for the extension.
• You uninstall the JobFriend Extension, which removes its associated local storage.

Third-Party Services

JobFriend does not integrate with any third-party services for its core functionality and does not share data with any third parties.

Children's Privacy

JobFriend is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or applicable age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
